OWH ODBD December Challenge: Get Sentimental and Sketch #6

Hello Friends,

Just wanted to mix it up a little. These cards cover two things the self challenge of making a card for each OWH sketch and the ODBD December Challenge: Get Sentimental. The great thing about the ODBE challenge is....they are giving away 2 - $25 gift certificates for two randomly entered cards and they are donating shipping to OWH. You can find all the details here.

So I need to tell you about this sentiment. It is a 1" stamp from Close to My Heart that simply says I Love You and I just stamped it at different angles. I think Sandy thinking outside the box is rubbing off on me.

Have you tried paper pleating. I hadn't either. It is the new tutorial over at OWH.

I decided to try something a little different. After completing the card at the bottom, I had some pleating leftover and just couldn't throw so used the scrap this way.

Operation Write Home is a group of cardmakers who are honored to make cards for our deployed service members – a small thing we can do for all the sacrifices made by them and their families.

My goal was to make a masculine themed card. I find it so much easier to make feminine cards. So this challenge was for myself as well.

Here are a series of cards that were one project at the Shoebox Party. This project was done by the party girl herself. The first item is a holder for the cards made from a school type folder.

This was a fun project plus it gave me great ideas to work other cards from.

PWA Party

Here are the projects that Julie had us make over the weekend. They were nice and easy projects that pack a lot of punch. Aren't they cute. You can see where she used the PWA beads on the bird. The bird was hand punched with O'So Sticky paperbacked tape and the beads added. It gives it such nice texture.

On the top picture we stamped the image once on white cardstock and the second time on the deep pink. One stamp once nice card.

If you ever get the opportunity to attend a PWA sponsored shoe box party you really should attend. The projects are first class and the people are fun and friendly.

Eastern Washington Shoebox Party

PennyWise Arts held a shoebox party in honor of Tracy's birthday weekend. This is a picture of Tracy and Shanea's wonderful scrapbook barn shop before the party began.

You can see the kits on the table ready for everyone to arrive and begin a day of crafting, snacking and fellowship. My kit is the one closest to you with the green lidded containers. I will need to show you mine later because I forgot to take a picture of it. The people in the background are Shanea (on right side) Tracy's daughter and Julie.

This was the sample that Shanea had with her kit. Isn't it a beautiful bracelet? I have never done anything like this so I was thrilled to give it a go.

I will post more pictures later in the week.

Road Trip

Hi everyone,
I had a wonderful weekend with some crafting buddies from Pennywise Arts last weekend. I just wanted to share one picture with you today. This was a beautiful water fall we found. This picture does not do it any justice but let me tell you it was breathtaking. We were standing on an opposite cliff (right on the edge, thank goodness for fences) just taking in the splendor of God's creative hand.

I have a video but for some reason blogger just doesn't like it.

Look at those brads!

Hi everyone,

Here is a card made with a stamp from the $1 bin at a local craft store. I justed my colored pencils and OSM to color the image.
It is a fun and easy card. Why not try one yourself.

Here are the brads. I just didn't like the brightness of these brads so I added a little alcohol ink to tone them down. I haven't used my alcohol ink in a long time but it has now called my name in the last two cards.

So what is sitting in your stash that hasn't been used lately? Need a nudge to get your mojo going? Maybe something old will make it come back.

CHA envy challenge 3

Hi everyone,
I think this is my favorite card from the three for the CHA Envy challenge at Stamp TV.

The card size is 3 1/2 x 6 3/8
This was a fun card to make. I didn't have any dp paper with an ivory background that I liked so I used my buttercream ink pad to tone down the whiteness. I also changed the middle pearl for a silver sparkly gem that is not in this picture.

CHA envy 2 Challenge

Hi everyone,
Here is the card I made for the CHA envy 2nd challenge. If you haven't been to Gina K's Stamp TV click on the link in my side bar.

Since I send a card to my mom everyday I have begun to write my message to her on a post it note so she can use the card to brighten someone elses day. This card measures 3 1/2 x 6 3/8 . I use this size the most so she can use the envelope size she has most handy.

So there was an oops on this card. I thought I was coloring the flower dots with my Stardust pen but it didn't look right - I had used my white pen. I just colored over the top once I realized what I had done.

CHA envy challenge 1

Hi everyone,
I made this card for a challenge over at Stamp TV. Of course, I waited until the last minute to make them. The deadline is 7 pm central time today. So if you want to join the challenge you'd better get going. They are randomly drawing someone to win a stamp set so why not try yourself. The ribbon started out white. I didn't have any yellow ribbon to match the card so I colored it with copic markers Y06 and V12. These are the same colors I used to color the middle of the iris.

Center Stage Guest Card

Hi everybody.
Over at Gina K of Stamp TV is looking for a guest artist for the August release. I don't have a chance of being picked but I wanted to make a card anyway. The challenge was to use a favorite Stamp TV technique from the video series. I used the Janome Sewing on Cards, Distress/Scored Masculine Card and Distressed Newspaper.

Here is a picture showing my sewing of the ribbon. Also the ribbon started out as cream and I colored it with my stamp pad so it would match the other green stamping.

Here is a close up of the distressed newspaper.

A Card A Day Should Make Mom Feel Loved

I recently was at a OWH cardmaking party. During the party a woman shared she makes a card for her mother and father in law everyday and mails them. They don't live close to her and the reason she was doing it everyday was because she didn't know how much longer they would be around.

I thought that was a great idea. I started about 3 weeks ago sending a card a day to my mom. If you have been reading my blog regularly you would know my mom lives in Iowa so I don't see her very often. So I challenge you to send a card a day. It wouldn't need to be to a parent or even the same person everyday. Just think doing what you love to do to brighten someones day.

Here is the card I sent out today. Mom's 75th birthday is Monday so I wanted to be sure she received it in time.

The picture isn't that great. I didn't have my camera handy so I took it with my iPhone. I will try to take better pictures from now on.

City Fest

Graduation Card

Hi everyone,
Here is a card I made for graduation. It was made totally with scraps. Don't you just love it when a card comes together with what is laying on your table. I saw this layout in a scrapbook magazine but I can't remember which one. I just loved it. The original card said something like friend on the triangles and forever at the stamped section.

I hope you enjoy it.

Here is a close up of the triangles. I cut the triangles on my Circut using the George Cartridge.

The letters were also cut on the Circut with my SCAL and vinyl. It made it so easy to add the letters to the triangles because they already had the adhesive on the back. I love cutting vinyl with my Circuit.

OWH Halloween

Hi everybody. Sorry about being offline for so long. I have had a few health problems and just didn't have the energy to do much after working everyday.

I have been working on some Halloween cards for Operation Write Home. Their deadlines are about 6 weeks to ship before a holiday so our deployed soldiers are able to write in their cards and get them sent back home.

I must admit it was pretty weird pulling out my Halloween stamps and stamping in July. I have also made a few Christmas cards that I will share later.

The stamp is a clear stamp from Joann's that I picked up last year for $.50. For once I was actually thinking when I picked up this stamp normally I would have thought oh well the holiday is past what would I do with this.

Here is a close up of the knotted tulle. I don't know why but the tulle called out to me at Joann's when I was there. Tulle comes in a dozen different colors and is very reasonably priced at $.99 a yard. I found that when I put the card in the envelope it collapsed very nicely but when pulled out if fluffed right back to normal.

We were challenged to make a red, white and blue happy birthday card for the tour. How appropriate for the 4th of July and our nations birthday. I did a little stitching and stamping on this card. It was quick and easy but I think the look is right on for our theme.

OWH S&S Sketch Challenge #23

Hello friends,
Here is my card for the OWH S&S Sketch Challenge #23. I like how all the colors went together so easily. I cut the circle with my Circut. I couldn't find a ribbon in my collection that I liked so I colored a white ribbon with my markers.

I used my Circut to do the Ilove you. I cut it out in white cardstock then colored with my coptic markers. I added the gem for a little sparkle.

Hi everybody,

Thanks for stopping by today.
I have included a card today that I am sending to a new special friend. I hope you enjoy it.

With this picture you can see I used 5 layers of petals. 3 large size and two small sized.

I wanted to show you a close up of the flowers. I used the Cuttle Bug embossing folder Swiss Dots to add some texture to my flowers. If you notice over in the right hand corner of the pattern paper the flowers and leaves have dots so I thought this would be a great way of tying in the paper as well.

So what do you think?

You won't see anything more from me this week I am taking a trip to Canon Beach Conference Center on Friday. I hope it is nice weather that day so I can walk the beach.

Happy Sunday everyone,

I hope you have all been able to attend church today and enjoy it as much as I do.

Here is my card for the OWH Stars and Stamps Sketch #19. I am planning on writing a note inside this card for one of our heroes. Hero you ask? Over at OWH you can get all the details of how this great organization supplies our deployed service men and women with homemade blank greeting cards to send home to their loved ones. Well, they also request what are called Any Hero cards that are written by people like you and me to these service people. Believe it or not there are some service persons that do not receive any mail so we try to fill in the gaps with quick notes to them....thus Any Hero cards. I think this image is perfect for an Any Hero Card.

S&S Color Challenge: Pot of Gold

We were challenged to use gold on our cards. I used gold tape around my image. It was too bright for my tastes so I toned it down a little with alcohol reinkers. If you would like to participate or see the other entries just click HERE.

I am writing today to thank you. I adore letters. To the point that my husband (now on his third deployment) and I have chosen them as our source of communication. We both love holding pieces of each other in our hands, and we have passed that love onto our kids. They choose not to Skpe with him, would pass on a phone call at times, but his letters -- oh how they squeal for them. My husband has lately been using cards from Operation Write Home. And he loves them; as do I. I can't thank you enough.

Can you believe that Memorial Day is just around the corner. Some say that is the beginning of the summer season. Well it sure doesn't feel like summer in my part of the woods. This has been the strangest spring.
It was cold and rainy last weekend so I decided it was the perfect day to make a card. This card is part of a challenge over at the OWH Stars and Stamps blog. You can find the sketch by clicking here.

Pecan Pie

Recently I was asked to make a pie for a community auction. So I said what kid. And the answer Pecan. Oh man, it has been at least 20 years since I made a pecan pie. Here is a picture of the result. I wonder what it tasted like. I wasn't able to attend the auction so I'm not even sure who purchased it.

I know this is a little late for the March 17th holiday but I sent this off to a friend and wanted to be sure she saw it before I posted it to my blog.
